From President
My dear Friends, Government Officials, fellow NCCMA Members:
I stand here this afternoon , grateful for the trust you have given me, mindful of the contributions of our former presidents and the responsibilities bestowed on me, and aiming high for the coming years as your new president.
“Life is good”, and I say this with a smile on my face.
After all, who else would know life better than us media workers ? 2008 was a painful year, and 2009 promises to be even worse.( or better ) In difficult times, we may sigh, panic or even curse, but we should never lose faith in this great country, in the profession we love and value, and more importantly, in life.
“ Life is good”. Life is so good that it never stops astonishing us, and it never ceases challenging us either. At the beginning of 2008, we worried about global warming; high oil prices, inflation, the overwhelming developing countries, and the imminent problem of how to control the overheating economy. But just a few months later, a worldwide recession set in. The ebb and flow of the economy is as destructive as it is constructive, and life will not disappoint us unless we let it. Believe me, there is a blessing and lesson for everyone under the disguise of the economic recession. I have a friend who lost his computer job after the internet bust in the early 2000s. He tried to find another computer job but couldn’t. Finally, he landed a postal job. Today, he is a happy postman - healthy and physically fit. Asked if he missed his previous career, he said, “definitely not”.
Taking the presidency at this challenging and complex time is exciting, and my optimism has a very simple, but profound reason. As the Chinese people have said for thousands of years, to start slim to rich is a smoother journey than the other way around. Therefore, I am starting a smooth, happy journey.
As the new president of NCCMA, I will do the following:
1. To form an advisory board comprising of our former presidents. Their experience and foresight is invaluable in terms of spearheading our numerous programs.
2. To reach out to the community by sponsoring or hosting various educational programs. Using our influences constructively.
3. To use NCCMA non-profit status to raise funds to help the communities
4. To further strength the Press Club subcommittee, for our own pleasure as well as for the benefits of our communities.
5. To go mainstream. To understand them and be understood.
I'll always be good for those who, despite what is obvious, dare to dream and dare to cheer.
